Earlier this year, Action Solidarité Madagascar celebrated 30 years of solidarity initiatives carried out by volunteers from Groupama and Générations Mouvement. Since 1995, thanks to regional associations, now members of a national association led by Groupama, this commitment has embodied a strong desire to bring about lasting improvements in the living conditions of people in one of the world’s poorest countries.
Madagascar faces major challenges: • extreme rural poverty, • partial school enrollment, • limited access to healthcare, • persistent food insecurity, • insufficient infrastructure, particularly in terms of electricity and healthcare. In this context, the work carried out over the past three decades by French volunteers and their local partners provides concrete responses to essential needs.
Since its inception, Action Solidarité Madagascar has been based on a model of cooperation. The associations work hand in hand with local communities to build sustainable solutions.
Key figures highlighting this commitment include:
• More than 30 local projects supported by 22 regional and departmental associations • €3 million raised (through regional and national associations) and more than 100,000 beneficiaries since the launch • One to two containers of supplies sent each year • Annual sale of 30,000 boxes of solidarity cookies, a real source of funding. These results are made possible thanks to the involvement of volunteers, sponsorship initiatives, fundraising, and the ongoing support of Groupama and Générations Mouvement regional structures.
1. Education To promote school enrollment, the association has contributed to the construction of classrooms, boarding schools, and teacher housing. In December 2025, for example, a new classroom was opened in Anosibe Anala, south of Moramanga, providing literacy classes for 40 children.
2. Professional training The association strengthens local skills through training: • teachers, to ensure high-quality education; • farmers, to develop new sustainable practices, increase yields, and improve families’ economic and climate resilience.
3. Health The construction and equipment of health clinics in remote areas are among the flagship initiatives. In May 2025, a medical clinic was opened at the Amparihy school near Tsiroamandidy, providing more regular access to healthcare for local families.
4. The environment Faced with the challenges of climate change and deforestation, the association supports: • the creation of nurseries, • reforestation initiatives, • training in soil-friendly agriculture. These projects strengthen food security while preserving natural resources. Action Solidarité Madagascar supports farmer training programs in southern Madagascar run by the agricultural agency FERT.
For 30 years, Action Solidarité Madagascar has been demonstrating the power of solidarity within the Groupama Group. Its projects show that mutual aid, when it is long-term and based on trust with local partners, can bring about profound change. The aim is to empower communities to become self-sufficient. Thanks to this collective commitment, thousands of children, families, teachers, and farmers benefit from better access to education, healthcare, training, and a more protected environment.
