As an insurer, Groupama has been working to prevent risks for over 60 years. That’s why, in 2021, we decided to take our mutualist approach a step further through the launch of our Life Savers Program. We aim to train as many people as possible first aid, free of charge. Our goal: helping people react efficiently when facing emergency situations such as cardiac arrest, loss of consciousness or choking. To date, more than 220,000 people have been trained in life-saving techniques. Let’s take a look back at how far we’ve come since the program was launched…
Our program is based on public interest: according to the Red Cross, knowing these techniques could increase a victim’s chances of survival by 40%. Groupama has been raising awareness of these essential techniques for the past four years:
– Through two-hour training sessions, provided free of charge everywhere in France
– A TV spot that has been performing very well since its first broadcast in 2022 and was voted the eighth favorite advert by the French public.
– Digital content throughout the year, both educational and emotional
In 2025, we have once again stepped up our initiatives to raise awareness of life-saving techniques in France and internationally. Training courses are available for our employees in France and our international entities, but there’s more: we want to make life-saving techniques accessible to as many people as possible. In total, more than 15,000 hours of training were provided worldwide in 2025.
Several initiatives were developed in Italy to raise students’ awareness of risks and promote a culture of prevention. Groupama has worked alongside the Red Cross volunteers to engage secondary schools, aiming at organizing life-saving techniques sessions for teachers and students. Over 1.600 students have been already trained with more than 2,400 hours of training provided. In Bulgaria, Groupama has been heavily involved in schools, training over 1,100 pupils in life-saving techniques. The trainings are still ongoing: by the end of 2025, we expect 600 more students to be trained in six additional Bulgarian cities. The same goes for Tunisia, where workshops have been held to teach schoolchildren basic first aid techniques.
In China, we provide customized first-aid training for drivers in Heilongjiang, in line with the needs of local clients. The training includes practical CPR training, hemostasis and bandaging training, as well as emergency evacuation drills, and also provides supporting safety supplies.
In Romania, Groupama provided life-saving skills training for almost 2.750 people so far in 2025, in more than 25 different cities, Life Savers Program also being present at many major national events, such as the International Animation Film Festival in Bucharest or the Resuscitation Marathon in Craiova.
In Hungary, we organised a full day of resuscitation training at our premises to celebrate World Restart a Heart Day, an initiative aimed at raising awareness of the use of defibrillators. We also sponsored Race for the Cure in Greece, the country’s largest social sporting event, which attracted more than 60,000 participants in Athens this year. Similarly, Italy has developed a new format with Komen Italy (primary no-profit organization dedicated to breast cancer education and prevention), involving Red Cross volunteers to promote life-saving techniques during the “Race for the Cure” events. Local agents have also been addressing risk prevention topics, gathering interest for future training sessions. The first event took place in Salerno, with more than 3,000 participants. We also sponsored the National First Aid Competition organised by the Croatian Red Cross. The event, which was open to all, helped raise public awareness of life-saving techniques. Finally, in New Caledonia, the Red Cross ran a workshop during the Groupama Annual Race.
Like Greece in 2024, our Bulgarian entity was also rewarded for its commitments: we were voted most dynamic insurer of the year and came second for our social commitment with our first aid training program, particularly for students. We also won silver at the Career Show Awards for our social responsibility. In Romania, our Life Savers program was also featured on fiipregatit.ro, the national emergency preparedness and information platform (managed by the DSU and IGSU)….and this is just the beginning!
